Ruchir earned his PhD in Neuroscience from Baylor College of Medicine, while also spending some of his graduate years at Yale University after his lab moved. Here, he was interested in the mechanisms of sensory map development, specifically how synaptic maturation and synaptic plasticity mediate the activity-dependent strengthening of appropriate topographic connections in the mouse visual system. As a postdoctoral fellow, he used 2-photon microscopy and electrophysiology to study the cellular properties of cortical neurons. Ruchir has an active interest in many areas of cellular, developmental, and systems neuroscience, and is very excited to bring his love of reading a wide range of biology literature to the editorial team at PLoS Biology.
