After Rachel earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from UC Berkeley, she decided it was time to leave the lab bench and joined PLOS as an editor. While she occasionally misses doing experiments, she enjoys the daily exposure to the enormously varied papers that come through the PLOS ONE pipeline. She is particularly interested in engaging the public about science, and thinks that the open access movement is a great step toward broadening scientific literacy. Aside from science, her other loves include bicycles, the ocean, and the SF Giants.
