Deputy Editor (U.K.)
Melissa Norton came to PLOS as Deputy Editor in December 2010 from BioMed Central, where she was Editorial Director (Medicine). Melissa joined BioMed Central in 2005, serving first as Medical Editor and then Editor-in-Chief of theBMC series, as well as launch Editor for Genome Medicine.
Melissa obtained her undergraduate degree in Genetics, Developmental, and Cell Biology from Dartmouth College. She then went on to study Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She practiced as a hospitalist in St. Louis until her move to the UK in 2005.
While she remains a passionate advocate of open access publishing, Melissa’s interests outside of work include sports, cooking, hiking, travelling, and riding horses.
