Margaret Winker

Margaret Winker came to PLOS Medicine in June 2012 after 20 years at JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association, most recently as Deputy Editor and Online Editor. Among her roles at JAMA were handling research articles; Web editor; editor of the sections Clinical Crossroads, Care of the Aging Patient, and Care at the Close of Life, which became a book; and a coauthor of the AMA Manual of Style. Margaret has served World Association of Medical Editors in many capacities including as President; she currently is Web Editor and a member of the Education Committee. She also has been active in Council of Science Editors, currently as a member of the Research Committee.

Margaret is excited to be pursuing her interests in global health and open access with the PLOS Medicine team. In her free time she enjoys running, gardening during Chicago’s brief but brilliant growing season, throwing pots, riding, and cooking, as well as watching baseball (when it involves her sons).
