Prior to joining PLOS, Jyoti was at NextBio, a genomic data analysis company, where she was the Scientific Communications Manager.  Prior to NextBio, she worked as a freelance science writer for the American Institute of Physics, DOE Joint Genome Institute, the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation and The Open Notebook.

Jyoti has a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University at Buffalo and has published research on genome dynamics. She likes to read, cook, garden and hike in her spare time.
