Jane Alfred
Deputy Editor (U.K.)
Jane Alfred joined PLOS Biology after an eight year stint as the Executive Editor of Development, where she managed the journal and worked closely with a team of academic editors and Editor in Chief in handling research papers, and developing ethical policies and editorial strategies for the journal. She also developed and oversaw the launch of a freely accessible and open community website for developmental biologists called the Node. Prior to her position at Development, Jane was Chief Editor of Nature Reviews Genetics, which she helped to launch in 2000 and which she joined after a short period as Editor of Trends in Genetics. Jane’s research background is in developmental genetics, and she is delighted to be a part of the team at PLOS Biology and, with it, the Open Access community, and to continue being actively involved in community orientated scientific publishing.
