Darlene Yaplee, Chief Marketing Officer at PLoS, has a 20+ year track record at innovative new media and high technology companies. Previously she was the Chief Marketing Officer at Affymetrix. Additionally, Darlene held Vice President of Marketing and Sales positions at Sun Microsystems such as International Marketing, Western Area Sales and Project Blackbox, a datacenter in a shipping container. She began her career in Product Marketing at Hewett-Packard. Given her specialization in developing strategies for new opportunities – products, markets and geographies, Darlene has consulted with start ups in the social media and medical markets. She serves on the El Camino Women’s Hospital Advisory Board and the Hillbrook Independent School Board. Darlene has been a guest lecturer at Stanford School of Business and Santa Clara University. She was the University of California, Davis Alumni Commencement speaker, selected for the YMCA “Tribute to Women and Industry” Award and Sun’s “Business Woman of the Year”. Darlene holds a B.A. In Economics from University of California, Davis.
