PLoS Computational Biology, PLoS Genetics and PLoS Pathogens forge ahead [4]

PLoS Computational Biology [5], PLoS Genetics [6] and PLoS Pathogens [7] were launched in the Summer of 2005, and are now entering a new phase in their development. In a few days, they will join PLoS ONE [8] and PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases [9] on the Topaz publishing platform [10], and will benefit from more rapid publication along with tools for user interaction – commentary, notes [11] and ratings [12].

Open access mandates from the National Institutes of Health and the European Research Council [14]

On January 11th, the NIH announced their new public access policy [15], which has now been strengthened to a mandate as required by the appropriations bill signed by President Bush in December [16].

Public Access to Research Funded by National Institutes of Health – Now Law [19]

On Dec 26th, 2007, President Bush signed the Bill that requires all NIH-funded research to be made available to the public.
